When I began LNPB I had a dream and a vision that if at all possible we would try to assure that no one would ever have to part ways with their beloved pets for lack of basic needs. As time went on I began to notice an onset of so many seniors in California who were being discarded at shelters left to die alone and wondering on a cold shelter floor. It occurred to me that perhaps these families could not afford the cost of having their beloved pets cross the Rainbow Bridge and could no longer bear watching them live in pain and felt they had no other place to turn.
As you all know, I met the beautiful golden angel Colby on March 31, 2012, who left his loving pawprint forever etched in my heart. Colby was beautiful and it was obvious to me that this sweet boy had been well taken care of by his humans howeverhis time was up, he was in so much pain and I am sure his humans struggled with their decision to turn him into the shelter to be put out of his misery. I cannot begin to imagine what it would be like to not be able to say a proper goodbye to your loving and loyal companion of so many years or to be right beside them comforting and holding them in their final moments as they breathe their last loving “good bye”.
Through tears I watched Colby’s eyes as he was surrounded by strangers and I could see he was searching for that one special person he loved and adored, his human. In his final moments, as I lovingly stroked his gorgeous fur, he looked at me so tenderly as if to say “thank you” . My heart cracked and through a sea of tears I assured him he was loved and that his life mattered and I promised him that I would find a way to help others so that no one would ever have to part ways with their beloved pet , especially in their final moments.
I cannot bear to think about the pain and heartache his family went through making this decision and if at all possible, LNPB is here to try and assure that no paws are left behind to die alone and wondering without their beloved human by their side. In keeping my promise to one special Golden Angel, Leave No Paws Behind is happy and proud to announce our “Colby Rainbow Bridge Memorial Fund” in hopes this will allow anyone who does not have the means to do so, have the proper good bye with their beloved pets. No animal should ever cross the Bridge alone nor die searching and wondering why they were left behind, their life matters. They are God’s gift to human kind to be treasured and loved even in thier final hours.
