Can you help
The CDC is not budging on this poor dog. For those who did not see our post yesterday, this dog belongs to an American Peace Corps worker who was evacuated from Togo* due to COVID issues. She had to leave her dog behind. She made arrangements with a company that repatriates animals, and the dog arrived Friday. The CDC tried to deport the dog yesterday before anyone noticed. There is an issue with the paperwork, but there is no reason any issue couldn't be fixed with revaccination and quarantine, but the CDC has decided to essentially send the dog back where it will die. This is not OK and their logic was actually racist.
Here is who you need to email:
Yonette Hercules, the Officer in Charge for the CDC Quarantine station at JFK Airport and the New England states. Her email address is: firstname.lastname@example.org.
Be very polite but firm. The dog can stay here, be revaccinated and quarantined and the public will be protected. Do not call her names, do not be rude. It won't help the dog.
You can also email these senators for their help:
NJ Senator Cory Booker: https://www.booker.senate.gov/contact/write-to-cory (Sen Booker is already involved but it never hurts to say thank you).
NY Senator Chuck Schumer: https://www.schumer.senate.gov/contact/email-chuck
IL Senator Dick Durbin (owner's home state senator):
Spread the word and ask anyone and everyone to email. It shouldn't take a village to save a dog, but apparently, this dog's life hangs in the balance because someone doesn't see the value in this dog at all.
*Correction: dog was shipped out of Ghana but originated in Togo.
